Farmer Word

The history of the land

Some stories are written over time and had begun many years ago.
As our family’s did: Maréchal-Bonnard.

At the beginning, the Maréchal family in Vrigny and the Bonnard family in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger were two big families of Champagne wine-growers, whose roots have been deeply settled in the farmer world since twelve generations.

Both of them knew how to embody the attachment to their land and to pass on their courage, patience and loving kindness of the nature to us. We inherited this land from our ancestors, it existed long before us and will still exist long after.

“In our estate, the vine is living at the heart of an ecosystem and it respects the natural balances.“

Our History

Tell our story

The Champagne Maréchal-Bonnard was born from the union of two big families of farmers-wine-growers of Champagne.
On one side, the Maréchal-Arlaux family, who has always been settled in Vrigny, on the slopes of la Montagne de Reims and represented today by Philippe. On the other side of the family tree, Delphine’s family named Jeannin-Bonnard, is a former family of wine-growers in le Mesnil-sur-Oger, in la Côte des Blancs.

“Our wine-growing legends have been going on for many years, as for each family, this past has been passing on since the 16th century. Our parents and grand-parents have taught us how to love this land which we have never left and which we perfectly know. Thus, our land arises out of our history.”

Above all, the Champagne Maréchal-Bonnard is Philippe and Delphine’s story, who met each other in 2001. Together, they take the same direction and share their knowledge and experiences to build their future. Speaking plays a key role, with a speech rooted in the soil: as the land, speaking is also a heritage.

Our Vineyard

Rich in our land

Our strength comes from the diversity of our terroirs: Vrigny, Premier Cru in la Montagne de Reims and le Mesnil-sur-Oger, famous Grand Cru of la Côte des Blancs.
The first one is composed of clay-loam and sand, the second one of fossiliferous limestone. Two terroirs and two strong identities very identifiable. An endless playground.

For several years, our environmental convictions encouraged us to develop more and more natural techniques to promote the diversity of fauna and flora. To be a good farmer is also considering all that grows; belonging to the landscape and taking care of it.

Certification Écocert® agriculture biologique
From 2021, our Vrigny estate has been certified as Organic Agriculture by the Ecocert® organic certification organization.

Our Know-how

Free to speak

The Champagne Maréchal-Bonnard’s specificity is to be able to express our personality in our wines. We listen to our technicality and our expertise, our inspiration and our terroir.

Our choice to work in harmony with nature is also present in our winery: it is the foundation of the wine-making. Different containers (stainless steel vats of any size and casks), also allow us to create blendings of high quality, as well as to test new meticulous and precise cuvées.

A rigorous choice of the wines is essential to make our blendings which will age during a long time in our cellars.

Main sur un tonneau — Maréchal Bonnard

We maintain our vision through an extremely precise work to play with the terroirs of Vrigny and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. We have a cutting-edged work tool and an ideal framework to experience and create according to our wishes.

A drastic selection of the grapes by tasting them in the vineyard, a pressing made in small volumes, plot by plot, separated and identified juices, worked separately.

Slow and spontaneous fermentations thanks to natural yeasts and wine-making processes in oak casks…  All these variables constitute our creative freedom.

“Speaking plays a key role of sharing and exchange with speech rooted in the land.”

Our Champagnes

Listen to the Terroir

What we are looking for above all, is to make our terroir speak.
The wines are the fruit of a work made with great care and detail and must express themselves in the winery and in the glass, tell the story of a terroir and a family, of our roots and our heritage.
